Standagc, Smith, 11. J.. Comrie, G. K. Stowell, and W. Shiver (clerk),' Messrs. W. M: llanuav, ] J. G. W. Aiiken, and J. Reith. i The Rev. R. Inglis, of Khandallah, j was unanimously electcd Moderator for ( tho next six months. . The Rev. W. M'Caw, who had boen ( appointed to make a visitation, reported that the work at Rona Bay had been carried 011 under difficulties, chief among which was the desecration of the Sabbath. Ono of the greatest needs under the pre- \ sent arrangement was a system of pas- \ toral visitation. There were not many Presbyterian families ,at the Bay, and the attachment of most of tho people to tho Church was rather loose. The average attendance during the year was 23 in the morning, and 3-1 iii the evening. Tho income had totalled X' 92 18s., which included «£'G-4 ISs. from collections. Good work was being done in tho Sunday j School, and the buildings were all kept in first-class order, thanks largely to Mr. j John Barr. lie suggested that after tho winter ?.i\ attempt should bo made to appoint an agent who could .on the work all the year round. They would have to see that in taking this step no injustice was v done to Mr. Findlav, who was now in charge. Consideration of tho report was adjourned till next meeting owing to tho 1 absence of tho Rev. A. Thomson, Moderator of tho charge. It was decided to place on record the Presbytery's appreciation of tho excellent work of Mr. John Barr. The Rev. J. Gibson Smith reportedthat Mr. Rutledgc, incumbent at Wadestown, was leaving at the end of tho month to take up work at Raetihi. It had been suggested that Mr. Findlay, of Rona Bay, might bo appointed in- his stead, and another possible successor was, Mr. Weir, a student now attending tho university, who had had some service in Hawke's Bay. Wadestown was expected to progress considerably when tho tramway was constructed, and what was really needed was a man who would bo ablo to spend all his time there. It was stated that Mr. Weir proposed to live at Wadestown. Tho Rev. W. J. • Comrie stated that Mi*. Webber, of XJpVier Rutt, would be \ free after t\tc cud ui the mouttw aucl \ raigbt also "be available for the position. It was left to : " tho Rev. J. Gibson Smith, as Moderator for the vacancy, to consult with the Rev. J. Kennedy Elliott, who is to make an inspection at Wadestown on July 23, and deal with ; the matter. i It was agreed to authorise, the church I at Masterton to ordain Miss Miller as a ! deaconess. A report was received from the Foreign Missions Committee that the Rev. W, Watt, missionary at the New Hebrides, was resigning at the end of the year, „ after spending almost 42 years in the islands. The committee had accepted tho resignation, and arranged for a suitably | 'minute to be drawn up on the matter. , The committee was disinclined to appoint a successor unless th© necessity for doing so was demonstrated by the Mission Synod. A resolution was passed approving of tho employment of Miss Mackenzie by the Kent Terrace Church as a deaconess, j and the Revs. J. .Kennedy Elliott and J. 1 Gibson Smith, Messrs. G. W. Aitken and W. M. Ilannay were - appointed a committee to take the necessary steps to obtain tho permission of tho General Assembly for her ordination. Tho Revs. J. Gibson Smith, W. J. Comrie, W. Shirer, A. C. W.
