6 MANY PERISH-WATER-TOWER CRASHES THROUGH PRESS BUILDING. A TRAGEDY AT MONTREAL. By Tolegraph-Press Association-Copyright. (Rec. June 14, 5.15 p.m.) Montreal, Juno 13. The of the "Montreal Herald" (a Laurier' journal) have been destroyed' by the fall of a water-tower, followed by a fire. Great loss of life resulted. It is estimated, that -10 have perished, mostly girl bookbinders. PINNED IN DEBRIS. FIRE FOLLOWS—MOLTEN TYPE. (Rec. June 14, 9.15 p.m.) Montreal, June 14. The water-tower, which held 10,000 gallons, crashed through four floors, many of the employees being pinned in the ruins. Rescue, work was hampered by the outbreak of fire which followed. So far 25 persons, terribly injured, have been extricated from the debris, while 20 aro missing. • After the water-tower had collapsed, many women, unable to escape, jumped from tho upper windows of\the building. Three were killed in this way. Finally, a wall collapsed, throwing the survivors into tho burning ruins. Rolls of paper on the basement emitted a dense', . acrid smoke. Chemicals added poisonous fumes. The-heavy machinery crashed through the frame of the buildings, and a mass of molten type overwhelmed some of the victims. The "Herald" is publishing an eightpage paper from the office of the "Montreal Gazette."
