HUTT COUNTY' COUNCIL.
♦- MONTHLY MEETING. The Hutt County Council met yesterday, there being present: the chairman (Mr. J. Whiteman), and Councillors J. AVakoham, AV. Galloway, T. Edwards, M. W. AVclcli, and M. J. Lynch. Tho County Inspector reported that a new pier had been erected at tho southern end of the Silverstrcam bridge, and other small repairs effected; river encroachments at Pakuratnhi would shortly be dealt with by means of wire crates; grant, in aid works at Barton's Road (Mungaroa), and from Mungaroa to Upper Hutt had been completed, while the following road works were in progress:—Plimmcr-ton-Pahautamii and Moonshiuo-Upper Hutt (Hnrokiwi Riding); ParaparaumuBeach and Waikanac-Upper Hutt (Wharcroa Riding); Orongorongo (AY'ainui-o-mata). Generally, the roads in the district were reported to be in good order. The proposed site for Messrs. Howell Brothers' slaughterhouse at Para pa ran mn had been inspected, and found to he suitable. The report was adopted. A quantity of correspondence on the subject of the Upper Hutt Township Land Company's roads was read. It was explained that certain road specificationswhich had been approved by the County Council during the period of its jurisdiction had been objected to by the new governing body, the Upper Hutt Town Board. Pending the receipt of certain plans, which had gone astray, it was agreed to defer consideration of the matter. The matter of the Fhmmerton Road contract came up for consideration (this is reported elsewhere), and a large quantity of routine business was dealt with.
