FUNERAL OF MR. W. COFFEY.
Tho funeral of tho lato Mr. William Coil'ey took place yesterday. afternoon, leaving his parents' residence in Oriental Bay at 2 p.m. - Comprising the cortege were somo 20 vehicles and a large number of pedestrians. En route .to the Karori cemetery tho funeral drew up at St. Mary of tho Angel's Church, Boulcott Street, where a service was conducted by the Rev. Father Venning, S.M. At the graveside the liev. Father Jiowden, S.M., M.A., oliiciated. The chief mourners weio: Mr. Paul Coil'ey (father),, Messrs. N. and P. Coii'ey (brothers), James , Hod aud John Parry (brothers-in-law), and Charles and John Newman, of Marlborough (cousins). Officers of the New Zealand Rowing Association (Messrs. J. E. Widdop and A. D. Baylield), and the Wellington . Boxing Association (Messrs. J. G. Day, E. D. Smith, E. A. Blundell, and T. Sampson) acted as pall-bearer^. All the principal, sports bodies in the city were represented at the funeral, including the New Zealand Rugby Union (Messrs. G. H. Dixon, G. F. C. Campbell; R. M. Isaacs, A. Laurenson, A. Campbell, M. J. Crombie, and J. D. Avery); AYelliugton Rugby Union. (Messrs. S. S. Brown, J. Sweeney, J. F. O'Sulliron, and W. G. Talbot); New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association (Messrs. Marriott and J. H. , Pollock); AVellington Centre Amateur Athletic Association (Messrs. J. AV. :Heenan and B. A. Guise); AVellington Boxing Association (Mr. 11. AV. M'Villy); New Zealand Kowing Association (Air. Lauchlan); Canterbury Rowing Association (Jlr. A. .D. Bayfield); AVellington Referees' Association (Mr. D. M'Kenzie). The Melrose, AVellington, and Poncke Football Clubs, of which deceased had, in turn been a member, were represented, as al?o were several of the other city sports clubs. Amongst others present at tho funeral were:.Messrs. 1,. Blundell, AY. J. Blundell ("Evening Post" Proprietary), C. AV. Earle (Dominion), A. J. lions ("Truth"), J. M. Gedilis ("Free Lance"), AV. H. A tack (Press Association), C. N. Beasley (Trentham Press Gallery), J. E. Henrys (racing handicapper), J. Dawson (Railways Traffic Inspector), Hon. John Rigg, M.L.C., Captain Shilling, Captain Jones, and 11 large number of other friends of deceased. Included in the large number of floral tributes was a beautiful wreath from the Christclmrch journalists. The AVellington Rugby Referees' Association last evening passed a vote of condolence with the relatives of the lato Mr. William Coffey, one of the officers of the I'oiicke Club, who was referred to- by the chairman (Mr. F. Laws) as "one of tho firmest friends of the Rugby game in Wellington."
