WELLINGTON ART CLUB.

The drawing of the prizes in the art union in connection with the Wellington Art Club took place at Messrs. Beadncll's gallery last Friday evening. When the prizes were counted there were found to be no less than %. The winning numbers appear in an advertisement upon another page of this issue. As about GOO or 700. tickets only had been sold the chances against getting a prize were only 7 to 1. The prize winners are allowed, in" the order in which they were drawn, to exercise their choice of a picture, on a date to be fixed by the committee, probably within a week or- ten days,' to allow country ticket-holders to make their selection. The method adopted is for the winner, say, of the twentieth prize to send in a list of the twenty pictures which he likes best, and when his turn comes the highest of these which is tinseleetcd falls to his lot. By this means-it is possible that ho may draw a prize which, in his opinion, places him considerably nearer the top than the twentieth, and in no case would ho get one which ho considered not in the first twenty. As everybody's taste is not the same, this should prove a very satisfactory arrangement. In cases where no lists are sent in, an officer of ,tho committee will make the selection for the prize winners. On Saturday evening, next the- second of a series of chamber concerts will be given at the clubhouse, to which mem-bers-have the privilege of bringing one friend each. Among those assisting are Miss B. Richmond, Miss Lloyd-Hnssell, Miss May Donaldson. Mr. Frank Johnstone and Sir. Horace Hunt. Tho programme is a most attractive one, and it is anticipated that it .will be followed by a keenly-appreciative musical , audience. . . At n general meeting on Friday evening tho club resolved to apply for incorporation under tho Incorporated Societies Act. The tea-room is now in full swing.
