TEACHERS INSTITUTE.
SUPERANNUATION PROPOSALS. An ordinary meeting of the Wellington District Teachers' Institute was hold last evening Mr. G.Flux presiding. There was an attendance of twenty members. ' ' A letter was read from tho Auckland Comity Teachers' Association on the subject of the unsatisfactory condition and general oquipmc-nt of teachers' residencies. The institute deeided to support the association in their efforts to obtain an improvement upon the existing state of affairs. Tho following nominations were received for the various honorary offices during the ensuing year: —President, Mr. J. Caughley; vice-presidents, Mr. G. Flux, and Miss M. H. Craig; committee, Messrs. H. A. Parkinson, and W. H. Gould, and Misses Dowdeswell, and Chatwin; treasurer, Mr. J. C. Burns; secretary, Mr. E. H. Ballachey. As tho number of nominations do not exceed the number required, no election will bo necessary at tho annual meeting which is to held next month. Six new members were elected. It was decided that it be a recommendation to tho conunittco that arrangements be made for a social evening to bo held next month... TEACHERS' SUPERANNUATION. After the conclusion of the formal business, Mr. Win. Foster read a paper on "Some Aspects of Teachers' Superannuation," explaining various points of the system which had appeared to be inadequately understood. The following resolutions were adopted at the conclusion of the address:— "That tho Wellington District Institute heartily supports the action proposed to he taken by the Executive of the New Zsaland Educational Institute to securo the-passing, during the session of 1910, of legislation to secure: '(1) To those pensioners, present- and prospective, under the first Teachers' Superannuation Act, tho samo consideration for service prior to .January 1, 1908, as is provided for similar service tinder the second Teachers' Superannuation Act. '(2) The computation of pensions under both Teachers' Superannuation Acts on the same basis as that employed in tho computation of pensions tinder the Public Service Superannuation Act. '(3) Admission (under condition to be imposed by the Teachers' Superannuation Board) to either fund, of those teachers who failed to elect to become members on January 1, 1906.' "
