WOODVILLE. Tho Borough Council held their monthly meeting 011 Thursday evening last. TIIO result of tho appeal for photos, of early Woodville for Inspector Hill was that 18 copies have been forwarded by Mr. Grey Nicholas. Health Inspector Munro, wrote asking the council for a testimonial as he had been retrenched. .It was agreed to forward same showing that tho inspector had dono his work faithfully and well. In connection with tho drainage scheme, Mr. Martin, tho association's solicitor, wrote stating that under tho present Act 10 per cent, extensions could not bo obtained. As there is no law which allows of tho council to borrow to lend to ratepayers, there is to bo a special meeting next Tuesday to fix the area and tho amount of the propose/1 drainago scheme. Mr. J. Grant wrote objecting to certain of his sections being included in tho drainage area. TIIO, Bacon Company objected to pay tho price for coke asked by the council, but inquiries were received from tho Eketaliuna council as to charges for same. Tho Railway Department is to be asked to mako the road on the south side of railway station. During the winter months tho street lamps are to he lit up at 5 p.m., and owing to the unsatisfactory state of clock-work apparatus, tho assistant is to mako the round of> tho lamps to seo that all are burning correctly. Friends will regret to hear that Mrs. T. Brightwell is seriously ill. 011 latest inquiries there is a slight improvement in her condition. Mrs. Brightwe.l is very charitably disposed, being always in attendance upon the sick and needy, and it is to be regretted that her sickness will curtail her further usefulness in this respect for some imio. Tile Rev. Giffen, who used to occa-, sionally visit the district some 15 years ago, is to conduct tho services at tho Methodist Church hero 011 Sunday next. The Presbyterian choir have been steadily practising the cantata: "Under the Palms," which is to bo rendered shortly. Though tho cantata is one of the "old order" yet it is brimful of pleasant melodies. The result of the football fixtures for this week were: Dannevirke -seniors v. Woodville, the former team scored four points to nil. The Woodville juniors v. Dannevirke Cadets, 3 nil. Woodvilio thirds (9) v. Damicrirko thirds (nil)— 0 points t-o nil. FEILOING. Rough weather prevented a large yarding of sheep' coming forward for the Feilding snlo'yestcrday. Prices for sheep, and lambs were very firm. A very painful case of scalding happened a lew evenings ago to Mr. J. S. Sandbrook's little boy, aged four years. Tho little fellow was sitting 011 tho hearth, when a pot of boiling water got upset 011 him, necessitating medical aid being called in., 'The little sufferer is progressing as favourably as can be oxpccted. Mr. Frank Kensington, who lias been very well known as. a settler of the Rewa district for the past seven years, has left that district and taken up his residence in' the Stoney Creek district. Last night Mr. Kensington received a presentation at his new home, from the settlers of the Rewa and surrounding districts.
