SHOULD DOMINION TAKE THEM? (By Teleffraph.—Press Association* .. Auckland, June 10. ■ The question of the immigration of boys from Great Britain was again discussed at this afternoon's meeting of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association. The chairman . (Mr. Gray) said he had noticed that some gentlemen were opposing the scheme. Certain members of Parliament' were already raising a protest, and members had. 110 doubt read the extraordinarv telegram sent to the Prime. Minister by Jlr. T. E. Taylor, M.P. Tho fanners could not get boys to follow agricultural pursuits, yet Mr. Taylor at once set up a. protest on the ground that there were boys in New Zealand wanting work. Mr. J. R. 1 Walters: Mr. Taylor is simply trying to catch tho 1 Labour vote.
Mr. Gray: It is only proposed to bring about CO .of theso boys, and it might be a means of setting up good settlers'. It is a pity cold, water should be thrown upon the scheme.
Mr. Ambury said the farmers were not going to be tied down to stipulated wages, nor to three years' agreement when tho boys came out hero knowing absolutely nothing about the work they had to do. For some considerable time they would-not bo worth anything at all.
