MURDER PLOT FAILS.
RAILWAY OBSTRUCTION. FEARFUL DISASTER PLANNED. By Tdeeraph—Press Association-CoDyrlrtt Melbourne, June 10. A deliberate attempt jsvas made to derail a train at Clifton Hill, threo miles- north-east of Melbourne. On one rail a pieco'of iron and on other a pieco of hardwood Imd been carefully, fixed to fit into the joints between the ■ two rails, the idea • being that the wheels of tho train should run up the wedges and drop off. The weight of .the engine, however, displaced the wedges. ' Had the attempt proved successful, the train would have dropped 20ft. over an embankment upon some'houses below.
