A CHRISTCHUKCH VENTURE. At a -mooting of the Board of Governors of Christolmrclr Tcchr.ocal Collogo last night (says a Press Association message), a special committee re-comm-eudod the purchase of land in the suburbs for the purpose of cst-abfeliing a" training hostel for girls in connection with the college. The chairman of the board (Mr. G. Allison), in the course of his report to the board, dealt exhaustively with the necessity for such am institution, and also showed that it could be established on a sound finfaicial basis. He stated that the hostel will be not merely or even primarily a bnardinghouse, but it will be in effect a special extrusion of tko clans-room, and practice rooms of the college, where all girls taking the domestic science course will receive training in household cookery, household laundry work, and .also, in the important 'work, which the college is at present' unable to touch, the cleaning, care, and arrangement of the house. Ho cstiimatod that, assuming there were fifteen girls in residence, and one class of twelve girls to be held for four hours per day, for five days per week, for 3G weeks, the receipts would total £530 per annum, and the expenditure (including the salary of the matron instructor, £80, and proportion of salary of principal, £50), would be £526. Ho added that the board had almost sufficient funds im hand.to purchase the site under oft'o-i', which is about ton acres in extent.
