, , —- FORMING A RAILWAY LEAGUE. NORTH ISLAND INTERESTS. '• Hastings, June 7. At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, letters were received from most of the chambers iii the-North Island pro- ' mising hearty cooperation iu the move* ment to establish a North Island Railway League, it was resolved that all / North Island 'chambers be invited to fend delegates'to attend'a conference to be held at Palmerston - North during Winter Show week; to form a league for securing equitable treatment for the North l»iand in the matter of railway • construction and ' expenditure. DUNEDIN PRESBYTERY. ASSEMBLY'S PROPOSAL REJECTED. ' Dunedin, June 7. At a meeting of. the Dunedin Presbytery to-day, a proposal sent down by ,the General Assembly for consideratipn was rejected by a large majority. The effect of the proposal was that,- in the event ofa vacaucy in a pastorate, the Presbytery would make a list of ministers whom it regarded as: .suitable, and . this would bo considered by a selection committee.
