C. M. DEPEW'S VIEWS. (Rec. Juno 7, 9.25 p.m.) New York, June 7. President Taft conferred with the railroad presidents, but tlx© Government's policy is unlikely to be changed. Mr. Chauncey Depew (chairman of the Board of Directors of the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad Company, and a director of many other railroad companies) states that the railroads went about the matter in tlie wrong way. They ought to have sought a hearing by the Interstate Commerce | Commission. A LIKELY BASIS' OP AGREEMENT. (Itec. June 7, 11.10 p.m.) New York, June 7. The Western railroads have agreed to withdraw all increases in rates, and have , promised to await the operation of the | new railroad law. President Taft has announced that the ; Government's suit against the Western railroads will bo withdrawn when the i new rate law operates.
