SHORT CAR ROUTE TO KARORI.

PROPOSAL FAVOURED. About fifty ratepayers of Karori attended the meeting, held last evening in the Parochial Hall, for the purpose of consideling the proposal to shorten the tramway route to the suburb by connecting up the present line with the Kelburne cable-car station, by means of an electric tramway from the Baker's Hill tunnel along Upland Road, Ivelburne. Mr. Jas. Henderson was chairman. The details of the scheme were outlined by Messrs. R. H. Wedde and. E. E. Hammond. This was the scheme referred to Northland ratepayers last Friday, when the proposal was rejected. In the opinion of the speakers, the' proposal could be carried out.at a cost of <£8000, plna a sum of v «£44o per annum-'to provide interest and sinking fund. The having in car mileage was estimated at d£s4o per annum* and there would be a saving to the public of 3d. per fare. "It was stated that the Kelburne and Karori (oable) Tramway. Company had agreed to pay .£3OO per annum for five years as a subsidy if the proposals were adopted. The speakers agreed that, as there was an. existing line, it was necessary that a good case must be made out for the new routs before the authorities would feel l justified in accepting the proposal.
