' J It is reported that tho new steamer of t similar design to the Marama, which Is being built for the Union Company's inter- I iMonial strva-e, In lo bt delivered in time- 1 for the next summer passenger season 1 (says a Christchurdi exchange). Very little has been made public, in regard to this c steamer. The company's passenger fleet c is at present all in commission, and it is generally believed that if the present position were pormanont in regard to the com-. ordered. But it is not definite whether Uio

Vancouver service will remain iu the Union Company's hands. There has been talk of a possible venture by the Canadian Pacific Hallway into tile enterprise; ana if that happened, the Union would have more than enough large steamers on its hands. It is therefore considered probable that the building programme will be kept to cs modest dimensions .as possible for some time to come. To-morrow the. steamer Ca'.dergrovo is to sail from Liverpool for New Zealand ports direct in the interests of the F.H.S. Una. Her first port of call is not yet announced. Mr. 0. Pirie yesterday joined the Ponerua as second engineer, It ia expected that the Wairuna .will leave Gisborne for Wellington to-day, witn the balance of her cargo of Newcastle coal. The Kurow is due here to-night, with a cargo of coal from Westport. Some time ago it was announced that a Dunedin Arm had purchased the ua'rque Ganymede, with the object of convcrbug her into a coal hulk. A southern exchange states that the barque is now on her last voyage.. She left Newcastle on Monday last, with a cargo of coal for Auckland, and on completion of discharge she goes to Duuedin to be dismantled. Following is a summary of the cargo loaded at Wellington-by the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's Tokomaru, which sailed for London on Tuesday:— 3Bs3 ■ carcasses mutton, 4129 carcasses lamb 357 hunches mutton, 15 boxes kidneys, 147 bales wool, 1450 bales hpmp, 83 baleß tow. 276 casks tallow, 40 packages sundries.
