PREMIER ON WEST COAST.
INSPECTS A GOLDMINE. (Bγ Telccraph.—Prcai Assocla.tlon.l Ross, May 26. Sir Joseph Ward, accompanied by Miss Ward and Miss' Mandl, went down the Boss Goldfields' shaft to-day, and remained in the mine for nearly an hour. Sir Joseph expressed himself as being well pleased with the developments. RAILWAY ANNOUNCEMENT. {By Tclcsrtvph- —Press Association.) Holiitika, May 25. The Prime Minister proceeded in the afternoon to Rimu. Replying to a Rimu Miners' Association deputation, ho promised to take definite action on his return to Wellington with reference to the. question of amalgamation of three water rights (already granted), and would send tho Rimu miners a definite announcement on Monday next. Sir Joseph was entertained to-night at a banquet by tho Mayor and borough councillors. During tho evening he announced that a one-day's service would be arranged for by tho Government between tho East, and West Coasts within five or six months, and that the railway to the Otira tunnel, from tho Ohristchiirch side, would bo finished before tho contractors had completed the work of piercing "tbo hole in the lull." Sir Joseph left for Grcymoutli after tho banquet.
