D'Argel is Miss Nora Long, '' daughter of tho lato Mr. Charles Long, commercial traveller, who mado Wellington his centre. As a young girl Miss Long attended St. Mary's Convent in Hill Street, whero she received a thorough grounding in singing from that most successful 'teacher, Sister Mary Agnes. She appeared now and again in convent concerts, displaying a very sweet, but not a strong, voice, and seldom did sho do herself jnstice, as slie was always very , nervous. After hor lather's suddon death sho bethought hor of a vocal career, and went to Sydney, where she was trained .' by/.Signoi' Hazon (now in Wellington as ii conductor of the Grand Opera Company). On the advicoof many pe6plo, she after--3 wards went to England, and in London • had the. good fortuno to Ijo taken up by 3 a lady of wealth, who plnced hor under . tho best masters, including Bouhy, of Paris. Last year sho made a successful ' debut at Nice, appearing as Hilda in 1 "Sigurd," Marguerite in "Faust," and Lα Heine Marguerite in "Les Huguenots." - She mado quite a brilliant success, and has since been hailed as a coming "star."]
