' SHOCKING ACCIDENT AT DUNEDIN. A LINEMAN KILLED. [ ANOTHER SERIOUSLY INJURED. (By TelezraDh.—Preea Associations Dunedin, May 25.' ) Shortly before three o'clock this after* . noon a shocking accident occurred to . two linemen shifting a low-tension wire outside A. and T. ijurfs foundry in ; - Cumberland Street. James Henderson ? got his hand upon one. of tlio wires, and i wns immediately electrocuted. Mr. High- - ley, foreman to IMnsley and Co., saw :1 him hanging across the wire, and went . up to his rescue, but finding all. wires f "live" he returned to the ground to get the power shut oil, Before this was dono James Kinch, a companion of Henderson, mounted the ladder and attempted to take him from his position, but he himself was caught by one of the wires, and received a ter- ! rible shock, which left him helpless. 1 Mr. Highiey assisted to get Kinch " down, and upon his removal to the hos pital he quickly recovered. '» Henderson was got to the' ground with some difficulty, and it was then seen that his hands were burnt to the bono. He was taken to the hospital, but examination showed he was dead. Kineh is a married man, but Hender< son was single. Mr. R. Brinsley, whose works are right opposite Burfs, says ho heard an explosion just like a gun going off. He looked out and observed the man lying over the arm of the post where he had been working. A man who tad been assisting him slipped down tho ladder and ran into 0 Burfs to get the power cut off. The •' head of tho injured man had drooped by this time, and he was lying right 1 across the arm. n Another man then ran up the ladder s aud put his hands on the live wires, and the next instant he lay over the arm J 1 like the other man. Then Mr. -Highlej "_ (.Mr.. Brinsley's foreman), at great perjr sonal risk, 3 ran over the street aud went g up the ladder. He took a rope with hiir £ and fastened the first man's legs to tin . g ladder. He pushed the man's hands of ,j the wire, and then the power was cir. ■i off. " Another eye-witness says that several ' onlookers called out to the second man » not to touch the 'live" wires, but. he . seemed to take hold of one in each hand, y Attention was first drawn to the acci- '• dent by a Ipud report and a flash. . y .
