' Natives in the French Congo murdered I Lieutenant Boyd Alexander, tho English i explorer and , naturalist, who in , 1901-7 i made a notablo journey from.tho Niger i to tho Nilo across the Central Sudan, 1 3700 miles. I Lieutenant Alexander was engaged at tho time on 4 hunting and natural history expedition. KILLED IN WADAI. A PLACE OF EVIL HISTORY. (Rec. May 25, 10.15 p.m.) London, May 25. Further particulars show that Lieut. Boyd Alexander was killed not in tho Congo district, but in Wadai (which falls in tho French sphere). The iaurdcr took place on April 3 at Nyer, eastwards of Aheshr, the capital of Wadai. The district is a centre of Senussi activity, and has been tho scene of the murder of several explorers, including Vogel in 1856 and Beurmann in 1861. It was in Wadai, moreover, that a number of fanatics recently ambushed 'a force of nntivo troops led by French officers, nearly all of whom (about 110) were killed. The French have since retaliated, a punitive force killing a hundred na- ' fives. • ,
