I*£ Tho fortnightly meeting of the Karuri djj Borough Council was held last evening, SJ and was attended by tho Mayor (Mr. 0, % I. Dasent), Councillors Burn, Cathie, I: Spiers, Standen, Walmslev, Welling and Sir Hildreth. ® The council further discussed tho mat- gk ter of ladies and others travelling on ksl workers' cars, a report of -which debate SfF; appears in another column. j® It was agreed that tho proposal to |jjj shorten the tramway route by Tunning cars via Kelburno should he discussed $<» at a special meeting to bo held on (i®j June 8. Hi l Regarding the high level road on Stan- eL den Street, and Mr. Hull's letter asking that the road bo metalled, it was dc- ton cided to inform Mr. Hull that tho road If had been constructed by the syndicate as an approach to, and for the convenienco Wof, tho sections to which it gavo access, and was without any reference to tho council. Tho council had never recognised it, as any further widening of the *-1 present formation of Standen Street A would affect it. Residents in that street K8& had hitherto paid for tho metalling of br f their respective frontages. The council, m. however, was prepared to metal any por- H tion of the road, provided that the cost Wk was defrayed by the owners or occupiers ft of the land fronting the portions metal- M led. , H In respect to the petition sent in by residents of Amy Street, it was decided ij to place n stun of money on the estimates wi to cover the necessary culverting and /"jf draining of tho street, and to make any ,Jk slight improvements which the borough wj' engineer might deem neccssary. ' Instructions were given that five resi- .j dents and owners of property in John- AJ ston Street should be requested to desist from discharging house drains over tho ft! banks of the cuttings. ifl
