FOR RIFLEMEN.

:—^ THE CHAMPIONSHIP RANGE. IMPORTANT EXTENSIONS.' Tho annual dinner of tlio Karori Riflo Club last evening was the occasion of an important announcement by Colonel It, J; Collins, Chief Executive Officer of ( tho -Dominion ltiile Association, on the subject of the future extensions to bo carried oin at Tii'iithum riflo ran£o. Replying to. the toast of "The Dominion Rifio Association" (proposed by Captain G. T. Hull, who paid a high compliment to tho manner in which the affairs of tho association wcro administered), Colonel Collins paid a tribute to the pioneer work which had been accomplished by Colonel Sonimerville iii the early days of tho association. The last championship meeting at Trentham had been one of tho largest, and most successful in the history of . the association. Their Australian visitors, \v!iu had found tile climatic conditions of .Trentham rather trying, were good . sportsmen. (Hear, hear.) That visit, hud heen.one of those important events which assisted to cement togotlier tho integral parts of tho British •Empire. '(Hear, hear.; Referring to tho championship range —"Tricky Trentham"—tho speaker said that lie was pleased to bo ablo to un'.nounce that the necessary works to comjileto the extension of the Trentham rifle range—as outlined by him in his schema submitted in 15)05 —wero now authorised by-the Government, and instructions had teen given to put the work in band at once, so that the completed range with all its facilities would be ready for the next . championship meeting. The improvements included!--(1) The further extension of the pre•sent Sonimerville range so as to give Jong-range, accommodation up to 1000 yards, and for 13. additional targets, making 25 in all on that rangr. (2) Tho erection of 13 "Ralston" targets on the Sornmerville butt, with accessary head-cover to protect markers. (3) The removal of the present build* ings, including mess riwui, magazine and statistical office, to the grounds in rear of tho new 1000-yards firing mound, und ' tho enlargement of the mess room by widening it so as to make it double the size, and thus accommodate at least 250 competitors at the one time. , (!) Tho construction of new firing mounds on the Seddon range to permit of firjng' being carried on at 200, 300, 000, , md 60U yards. (5) The construction of a new kitchen »nd the building of a baker's oven, the necessity of which better cooking accommodation has been a long-felt want. (6) Water supply extension to diSeront parts of .the new camp sites. (7) Tho completion of tho present telephone connections, which were spoken of so highly by the Australian riflemen. The sanitary arrangements 0f... tho camp were also to receive attention, and, when completed, tho range will be up-to-date and equal to, if not better than, any other range south of the line—7s targets for 200, 300, 500, and 600. yards, and 50 targets for 800, 900, and 1000 yards. This increased accommodation must, Baid Colonel Collins, prove of great advantage, not only to the Dominion Itifle Association, but to the shooting men of Wellington. It would enable the championship meeting to be disposed of .within a reasonable time, as it would provido for uninterrupted long-range shooting and competitions, and also leave available for uninterrupted use for service matches the present Collins range.
