WAIHI LOW LEVEL ORE WORTH £8 PER TON. RISE IN SHARES. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Auckland, May 22. It is understood that valuable ore as- . saying £8 per ton has been met. with in tho low level of tho Waihi mine. This no doubt explains why shares in the Waihi. Company advanced during tho week from 1655. to 1745., at which figure sales were made on Saturday on the Auckland Exchange. | GRAND JUNCTION'S COOD PROSPECT, ROYAL REEF AT NO. 5 LEVEL. Reports from Waihi state that at the No. 5 level in the Grand Junction mine the Royal reef continues-to open ujj most satisfactorily, recent developments at last pointing to the lode proVing a valuable asset to the company in this section of the property. ' Some little distance back from the present face of the drive on the main section of lode (now out well over 400 feet from the south-east crosscut) a crosscut, projected with the object of determining tho width of the reef, has exposed 17 feet of quartz, with the footwall in hand, and no 6ign of the hangingwall. The assay values from the crosscut are not yet available, but from the appearance of the • ore the lodo should produce payable ore for the full width showing. The cast branch vein (apparently a cross reef),, which broke away from the main body at the 160 feet crosscut, is also, opening up well. A rise going up ou the lode to ascertain the height to which it lives, shows 8 feet of nice sulphide ore. The main north-west crosscut, being ad-' vanced beyond No. 2 reef to explore the north section on the property, has passed through a quartz body some 8 feet or 9 feet wide, that at the point of intersection being of low grade. This will be exploited and tested later | on. Other development works at the low j level are being expeditiously pushed ahead, with no change of moment to report since last inspection.
