GUN ACCIDENT AT MAKARA. SHOT ABOVE THE HIP. Word -was received by the police authorities yesterday that a man named John Russell, a butcher residing atl Northland, was accidentally shot by. Ms brother-in-law, Mr. Moran, at j Makara this afternoon, v. ; It appears that Moran and Russell were at the time going down a hill. Owing to Moran slipping, a shot-gun' which he was carrying went off, the charge lodging in Russell's body above the liip. Russell was taken to a house} j in the Takaiau Valley, beyond Makara. - j Without delay Dr. Holmes and ths ambulance were dispatched to the i scene of the accident. Further details go to show'that Russell and Jloran wero rabbit shooting at ' the time of the mishap. Russell wasi ; admitted into the hospital at 9 o'clock j last night. The full, extent of his injuries ■ have not yet been ascertained. FATAL FALL FROM A TRAM. , j Henry Shiletto, whose skull , was i fractured as a result of stepping off a moving car in Jervois Quay on Frw j day evening, succumbed to his injuries • ! on Saturday night. Deceased was a resident of Ashhurton. An inquest will be held at the hospital this afternoon. /• STRUCK BY A MOTOR-CAE. Upon inquiry at the hospital last night it was stated that Mrs. Head, who was injured at Newtown by being struck by a .motor-car, had not yet ; full regained consciousness. i CHILD INJURED BY POWDER.. • A child named Henry Pearson, whoso I parents reside at Kaiwarra, was admitted into the hospital on Saturday ! suffering from serious burns about th© face. It appears that the unfortunate child got possession of some blasting ; powder and matches. Whilst it was plaving with them an -explosion oc-f curred. Whether his eyesight will bp affected is not yet known. . SLIP IN THE STREET. ; George Revies, a fireman employed at the" Wellington Gas Works, while . , proceeding along Kent Terrace on Fri- ; day evening slipped and fell, sustaining a fracture above the* ankle. .
