MIRAMAR WORKS.

IMPROVEMENTS IN VIEW. ROADS AND PLANTATIONS. Tho Mayor (Mr. J. Brodie) and members of the Miramar Borough Council mad© the annual tour of inspection of borough works on Saturday afternoon. The party set out from tho city in two carriages, and went first to Seatoun, where they inspected the cutting to Breaker Bay, known as the Pass of Branda. It is proposed to plant half an acre of land with trees at tliis spot. Several streets of Seatoun, now in their natural state, are to bo formed. An inspection was made of the sea's encroachment at the end of the Marine Parade. The position was admitted to be serious, and, if no preventive measures were taken, it would be only i a few months before the sea would be ' eating into private property. At pre- I sent it is eating its way through the . road. If adjoining property-owners will give a strip of land the council will construct a retaining wall. It is intended to widen Church Street, and form footpaths. The Mayor ! and councillors drove up the hill by t tho tunnel to Seatoun heights, and : along tho top road. It was agreed to I regrade and metal practically the whole I of the main road, and it is also tho intention of the council to plant an area adjoining the State school, probably with pines and ornamental trees. A visit was paid to the north part of Miramar flat, which is to be reticulated with gas almost immediately. Several streets are to be formed in this locality. The Mayor and councillors inspected the new harbour and reclamation works at Miramar. South Rongotai Street was next inspected, where some lamps are to be erected, and \ as then paid to the area at the east end of Lyall Bay now under ofrer pf to the City Council. Tho area is within the borders of the Miramar Borough. The tour of inspection, which commenced soon after midday, was not finished until darkness, had begun to fall.
