HUNTING
Glorious weather for the sport greet* cd Manawatu huntsment on Saturday, afternoon, when they met in tho vicin-> ity of Stoney Creek, near Palmerston. The drag (writes our correspondent) was laid, by Messrs. 0. F. Anderson and Fisher, starting from Mr. Connor's property at Te llatai. Mr. Bruce M'Ewea (deputy mast er) was in charge of tho field, Mr. D. Bennett, huntsman, had fivo couples of hounds lip to time, and they; were immediately laid on to the scent, leading the field at a great pace and giving the huntsmen a very hot time over some excellent country, with obstacles that tried the mettlo of both: horses and riders. The drag led back, finishing up at Mr. Connor's homestead, Mr. T. A. Shaw, who held the whip, managed his hounds in first-class-stylo. At the conclusion of a most enjoyabhl afternoon's sport, hearty cheers wera given for tho property-owners who had kindly plawxl their paddocks at tho disposal of tho hunt; for Mr. Connor, who had kindly prepared tho course; and for the lady riders. There wore a largo number of spectators present. Tho Manawatu Hunt Club jiroposcs to hold a steeplechase meeting in August noxt, the use of the Awapuni courso having bi-on granted by tho Manawatu Racing Club.
