ENTERTAINMENTS.

THEATRE ROYAL. A bright programme is being preF/utccl at the Theatre Royal this wcok. Chief among a clever lot of artists aro Warwick Luinlcy, Cecil Stephano, Frank Yorke, Victor the Great, and Ilance Smith. The programme, is interspersed with some, interesting l>iograph pictures, including one depicting iiarry, the English, sculler undergoing his training on the. Thames. Garden Wilson, the famous imitator of wellknown actors, will make his first appearance at the Royal on. Monday evening. HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. There was another largo audience present at His Majesty's Theatre ou Thursday evening to witness the latest change of programme, which is of unusual merit. Among the pictures that call for particular notice is a very tine view of Mount Etna in eruption and a series depicting tho arrival of the fugitive Dalai Lama of Tihot at Darjceling. The dramatic pictures include a remarkably well-acted playlet entitled "A Victim of Bridge," "The Girl and tho Judge," and "Tho Newlyweds." The usual matinee will be given this afternoon. KING'S THEATRE. "Phaedra," a Pathe drama, and one of the most lavishly mounted plays over exhibited inr Wellington per medium of the kiiiematograph, is the star film this week at the King's Theatre. It is a striking example of the enormous expenditure that must be involved in tho preparation of this class of picture. Other good pictures are the metallurgical workers at Decazevillo (France), "Davy Craggs, the Detective," "Tho New Marshal of Gila," and a humorous Foolsbcad picture. At this afternoon's matinee every child will be. presented with a postcard of some Eoyal person. STAB PICTURES. The Star Pictures, at St. Thomas' Hall, continue to attract large and appreciative audiences. The -usual matinee will bo given this afternoon. LIVING NEW ZEALAND. An interesting series of animated pictures is promised by tho New Zealand Picture Company, which commences a season at the Town Hall on the evening of Empire Day. Chief amongst the pictures is one showing the triumphal tour through the Dominion, of their Majesties King George V., and Queen Mary. Dominion Day celebrations of 1903, with the children's demonstration in tho Basin R-esorve, and march of troops from the Government-Buildings, will also be screened. "Life on a Sheep and Cattle Station" depicts the various operations' of droving, yarding, drafting sheep, and the dipping of lambs. Films of the Wairagei Valley with all its wonderful volcanic sights, the Huka Falls, and Aratiatia Rapids on tlie Waikato River, and Lord Kitchener inspecting and reviewing cadets, at Dunedin, and presenting colours to the boys of tho High School at Dunedin, will also be shown. The orchestra will be under tlie baton of Mr. D. Kenny.

OLYMHA ROLLER RINK. The roller skating season in Wellington opens this afternoon, at the Olympia Rink, Ingestre Street, at 2 p.m., and again in the evening at 7.30 p.m. It is safe to predict a record attendance, as interest is now great amongst rinkers to test Vha merits of the muchparagraphed new floor. It may also bo asserted ,' that J ; tho. Olympia Rink is now probably one of the most perfectlyappomted rjfiks, ilf' Australasia; every detail, from'a'perfect floor and skates, to tea and cloak rooms, having been provided for. A peep at the rink yesterday disclosed a tasteful scheme of decoration, which enhances tho' effect of the handsome red floor. TO-NIGHT'S ORGAN RECITAL. Dr. Kingston Fyffe has kindly consented to give an organ recital on the Town Hall organ to-night at 8 o'clock, in place of Mr. Maughan Barnett, who is unavoidably absent in Christchurch. The chief items_ of the programme are referred to in the advertisement in this issuo. ORCHESTRA AND PICTURES. The Star Picture Proprietary, in conjunction with tho Wellington Professional Orchestra, have tendered successfully for the Town Hall for King's Birthday night. .; Tne combination \s a happy one for lovers of pictures and good music, and should prove a great attraction owing to tho fact that this will be one of tho largest orchestras that has ever accompanied moving pictures in Australasia. Popular picture pricos will be charged. HIGHLAND'RIFLES BALL. The Highlanders' .ball next month promises ■ to excel all previous efforts. Tho decorations will bo on a most elaborate scale. Tho musicians and caterers aro the same as were engaged for tho Masonic ball. Colour-Sergeant J. .Macdonald will direct tho grand march. The chaperons for the occasion will be Mesdamcs A. M. M'Diarmid, G. Willis, A. S. Henderson, and J. Macdonald. His Excellency tho Governor, Lord Plunket, regrets his inability to attend any entertainments owing to Court mourning. The Mayor is expected to be present.

Tho Scottish Pipers' and Dancers' Society, at its committee meeting held on Thursday evening, appointed tho following officers for the ensuing year:— President, Mr. W. Dinnio; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. Crawford, 6. F. Gibbs, and A. Dickson. It was decided to assist, gratis, the Highland Eifles on any occasion for which they wero required. It was also decided that members might bring lady and gentlemen friends on tho last Friday night in every month, when special programmes arc to> bo arranged. A social evening, including a Harried v. Single euchre competition, is to bo held shortly.
