SKIM MILK PASTEURISATION.
YESTERDAY'S CONFERENCE. ' A conference was held in the old-Par-liamentary Buildings yesterday afternoon to consider the question of pasteur-. isiug skim milk at butter factories and creameries, in order to prevent l , the spread ;of tuberculosis .amoug 'dairy cattle. The Hon'. T. Mackenziej Minister for Agriculture, presided. There were present: Mr. rope, secretary for agriculture; Mr. C. J. Reakes, chief veterinarian; Mr. D. Cuddic, dairy commissioner; Mr. \V. M.-Singleton, assistant dairy commissioner ; and about twenty representatives of leading dairy factories. The; conference was hold in camera. It is understood that after the Minister had.,,impressed, on,,those; present the necessity*f6r;pushirig- aliead. with skim-milk pasteurisation, and the valuable results that coiild" be achieved through it, Mr. Reakes' proceeded to" 6tate the case from his point of view, and. bysthe production of a number'of exhibits to give ocular demonstration of the urgent need for making pasteurisation universal: , Mr. Cuddie followed and explained the results of the experiments in pasteurising skim milk been carried, out. by the .Dairying division. As stated in Tiie Dominion", -tljcßesults obtainedimproved form of pasteurisation now being tried at the lvairanga factory .at Longbum have been particularly satisfactory. It is hoped that the conference will be the means of inducing, many of the leading factories to instal ekim-yhiilk pasteurisers before starting operations next season.
