_« (From Our Special Correspondent.) Palmerston North, May 18. There was a large attendance at the meeting of the Palmerston Literary and Debating Society last evening. Tho programme took the form of a "mock meeting" of tho Borough Council, Mr. C. Brown acting as Mayor. A very large number of matters which liavo latterly been agitating the citizens were discussed, and settled to tho satisfaction of the members of the society. The meeting was both instructive and enjoyable. The chairman of the High School Board of Governors, Mr. W. H. Collingwood, has received official intimation from the eneral of Schools that £2775 has been granted by tho Government towards the reerection of the High School. The Manawatu Savage Chib gives its first "ladies' night" 011 Saturday, and a first-class programme is being prepared for tho occasion.
