f t FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. f " The fortnightly meeting of the Hurt j" Borough Council was held last evening, ie there being present: the Deputy-Mayor le (Councillor Baldwin), and Councillors--111 Barlow, Pearce, Macaskill, Hayes, and ', Hawthorn. i i it The agenda for the adjourned meeting re of May 9 was first dealt with, 'j? The Taita Cemetery Trustees, reporting further in connection with the draft agreement,- announced the following :. clause therein for approval by local auj thoritics: "Any.party to this agreement, upon establishing a cemetery for its own • convenience, may cease to be a contribufc- , ing body under the agreement by giving , n twelve months' previous notice to the other parties thereto, any financial obli,r gations incurred by the retiring party under the agreement being first asceris tained and discharged." In view of the '■ a . small attendance of councillors, it waa i n decided that the matter be held over,. le the Deputy-Mayor remarking that the e j question should receive very careful consideration, in view of the liability which ic would fall upon the borough in the pos.v sible event of Petone ceasing to-be a [j contributor. T i. A Tl commu nication was received from: rs tne Bank of New Zealand, stating, with ' 3t regard to the borough's ,£IO,OOO loan, its approval of the hypothecation of debentures as .security for advances under • the loan, provided the bank's solicitors • prepare the necessary security for th« '" debentures. On the motion of the De- £ puty-Mayor, the Town Clerk was author- ™ ised to frame the debentures, and igefc 11 them printed. \ 'f In a letter to the council, the Wellingcs ton Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, ° forwarding a statement of allocations ot '- contributing local authorities for the curu rent year, stated that the Hutt Borough |s would be required to pay ,£716 Is. in fonr : e equal instalments of ,£179 os. 3d. - It was iv stated, that the amount required was-. i- .£7B less than for the previous year. Thai 0 letter was received. .' A complaint was received from Mr. G. n Bradley,, to the effect that he was reif quired to provide a petrolenm store whilst e others in his line of business had not e been required to do so. The borough i- ongineer stated that the persons referred e to by Mr. Bradley were within their [- rights, insomuch as they did not store iiiflammablo. material as stock. ' Only a ) \i ■ sufficient quantity for current use was a kept on the premises. It was resolved e to inform Mr. Bradley of tho actual . position. 5 Mr. Ihahaio Poratu Puketapu wrote B stating that he and his brothers were subr dividing their property at the corner of j White's Lino East and Waiwetu Road, with a view to individualising the titles, j Ho, requested the council -to shift the side. , fence out lu the proper line of the road.'-' at the bend in White's Lino near Mr, Comptoh's property. (This fence had .been ... in its present position for a ' great number of years. It was agreed that . Mr. Pukot'apu be asked to submit a plan of the proposed subdivision. . Tho secretary of tho Petone Ambulanea Committee wrote inviting the council to contribute to the funds for the provision of an ambulance wagon for Petone. Tha matter was held over for a . future e meeting. ? A further application from the Kilry- * mont Estate, asking, that construction > works .be carried out on the dedicated ; > portion of Heke Street, was considered. The borough engineer set down the esti- * mated cost of the work at .£45. It was J' agreed that the work should be carried 1 out when the money was available.
