DRAUGHT HORSE SOCIETY.
'AN URGENT NECESSITY.
There are well organised breeders : asso-, ciations in New Zealand; in. connection with cattle and sheep, arid' when'outside buyers come along, members .of these are in a position to supply authenticated pedigrees with their stock. So far, however, breeders of. draught horses are without any society. 'The matter was touched on by Sir. A. Hunter, president of tbe Egmont A. and P. .Association, in ' his 'annual' address 'a"few days » ago. This association has its headquarters at Hawera whence comes a fair proportion of the draught horses which have lately been exported to Australia in such large numbers. Mr. Hunter said that last year a communication urging the formation of teeed societies was received from the Canterbury Association. He thought members should give it their attention. Buyers from' "America would not have anything to. do with our draught stock, as they could not register' them "in America, and they would only bo ordiuary animals. The Argentine and North 'America were'.the'best buyers of pure-' bred stocks in the world, and, Mr. Hunter urged, we should get out affairs on a satisfactory, footing so that wo could sell to them. -New Zealand sheep had made a good name, and an effort should be made to put draught horses, on the same footing by the formation of the society mentioned.
