MESSAGES OF CONDOLENCE.
FURTHER EXPRESSIONS OF GRIEF. Among many additional nfessages of condolence received by the Government yesterday in connection with the death of King Edward VII were the following:— . "I join with you in profound regret at the death of our beloved King."— E. Newman, M.P. for Manawatu. From Ngatikere for the hapu of Porangaliau: "Great sympathy and grief for our King, Edward VII, who has passed I into the night. Depart thou the bright star of the earth; go to thy Father in Heaven. We also express our sympathy and grief for his wife and family, who have been j left behind." ' "The Dunedin Council of Churches desires to convey to vou sincere condolence on the death of His Majesty King Edward VIJ, and to express deepest sympathy with the members of the Boyal Family, and prays that the Great Father may sustain and comfort them." From Tauhu Kingi, for the Ngatipikiao tribe: "Greetings to you and Lord Plunket, the representative of our Gracious King Edward. VII, who has departed from this world and left tho living in sorrow. Depart 0 Sire into the night to your ancestors and parents. Depart, Depart." "On behalf of the Orangemen of Otago, we, offer our deepest sympathy in the loss of our beloved King." From Wh-ipeui Puhars, Hawakirangi: "Great is the sorrow that has coino. upon us on the arrival of the new* that our Gracious Sovereign, King Edward VII, had passed away. Depart 0 Sire and follow our Gracions Mother Queen Victoria, who turned a black world into a white world, whereby your two races here dwell together in justice, trutn, and peace." From Mr. A. H. Turnbull, "Vice-Consul for' Spain, Wellington: "I tender my bincerest sympathy in view of the grievous death of His Majesty King Edward VII," "The Institute of Marine Engineers express their deepest sympathy and regret in the calamity'that has overtaken tho nation." MESSAGES TO THE GOVERNOR. (By Telesrarb—Prcsß Association.! Palmerston North, May 11. His Excellency the Governor has received over 70 messages of sympathy with the Eoyal Family from all parts of New Zealand including all ' kinds of local bodies, religious institutions, and other bodies, besides private messages from many well-known New Zealanders. The following are among the messages received by the Governor r— R. J. Bagnall, Mayor of, Auckland: "The citizens of Auckland deeply deplore the loss to the' Empire by tho death of His Most Gracious Majesty the King, and desire your Excellency to convey their loyal and most heartfelt sympathy with Her Majesty the Queen and Royal Family." Archbishop.Redwood: "Greatly grieved at the unexpected death of the King. Accept condolence.". Rabbi, Hebrew Synagogue, Wellington: "Our deepest sympathy in the world's bereavement. Will your Excelloncy kindly convey the following message to the Colonial Secretary: 'Accept our profound and sincere condolence.'" : Sir John Logan Campbell, Auckland: "I mourn with all his subjects the loss of our great King." Lieut-Colonel Cosgrove, Dominion Chief Scout: "I desire, on behalf of the 360 officers and 6000 boy and girl 6couts of the Dominion to express their deepest sorrow and regret at the death of our great and good King, and we offer you our heartfelt sympathy in the great ioss our Empire has suffered."
