After hearing the petition and objection, Mr. M'Carthy, S.M., to-day ordered a recount and scrutiny in connection with the recent poll on tht, Napier Harbour Board's loan proposal, which: was lost. Mr. M'Carthy said that the returning officer, in announcing the result on the niglit of polling, had in some »ases to rely on figures given by deputies by telephone. In the circumstances, and looking at the possibilities of mistakes occurring in telephoning, he thought that a cose had been made out for v a recount. The recount and scrutiny were commenced this afternoon, and will be continued tomorrow. NAPIER BOROUGH LOAN. . Napier, May 2. The Theatre Royal ivas crowded tonight, when a meeting of ratepayers was held to consider the question.of raising the Napier borough loan of .£134,250. The meeting was convened by persons who support the acceptance of the offer of the State Guaranteed Advances Board to ad-' vance .£68,000 of the loan. A motion in favour of accepting that offer was rejectr ed by a large majority of those present. The feeling of the majority was in favour of raising the loan as a whole in one operation. - "THE FAMOUS ROSS NUGGET." i Hokitika, May 2. The famous Boss nugget, which was drawn for in an art union by tho Totara Hospital Committee at Boss on Saturday, was won by Mr. Percy Cohen, of Eeefton, the winning number being 3131. The funds of the hospital will benefit to the extent of about .£SOO as the result of the art union. The nugget is said t» have been sold by tho lucky winner for .£4OO. ■ ' WAfftOA COACH SERVICE.
