MEAT SHORTAGE.
■i'OCi DEAE FOE EXTEACT TRADE. PACKERS SEEK NEW FIELDS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Oopyrinht London, May 1. The "Pall Mall Gazette's" Chicago correspondent state that the shortage of meat has brought the extract business to a standstill, and that packers are working out new schemes to utilise their works. No contracts for the aupply of foreign armies are placed in Chicago at present. ' Libbys have purchased large' tracts in Canada, with a view to manufacturing condensed milk and also utilising their plant for the packing of canned fruits, vegetables, and condiments.
