LACROSSE.
COLUMBIA V. WELLINGTON. Tho above teams played. tho preliminary game on Saturday, when Columbia' proved the victors by 8 goals to 7. At the commencement it seemed that would prore easy victors, for, hy good oombined work, they had notched. 6 goals to Wellington's ono. On changing ends, however, Wellington livened up, and added sis goals in rapid succession as a result of excellent passing between Robinson, Firth, Webb, CarverJ and Levy. Meantime Columbia had added only two to their 1 score. For the winners Grant played well, and shows marked improvement as a ihoine. .Loydon, at centre, O'Lcary, at point, and Morgan, on the right attack wing, deserve particular mention. Meyer, in goal for Columbia, stopped several hard shots, whilst Penlington, Wellington's keeper; also cleared well, but hiS a tendency to leave the goal too often. KELBURNE V. CAPITOL. The contest between Kelbume ajid Capitol was probably one of the keenest and fastest games ever put up, in the history of Wellington lacrosse. From the "fax>©-of£" Kelbume pressed, and after quick and accurate work between the homes Pledger secured in good shooting position, and notched the first goal. Then for fifteen minutes the play became fast up and down the ground, but whilst' the Kelburne defence remained impregnable, their attacks again penetrated the Capitol's fortifications,. this .time through the agency of Meyer. On resuming, .Capitol forced the play into Kclburno's territory, but tho Bluos' defence remained unshaken to the last, and their attacks notched another point, from Loughnano's orosse, which gavo them a hardfought victory of three to nil,., Kelbumo must bo congratulated on 'their win against Capitol, who had hitherto been unbeaten. Seely admirably marked Borrodale, who is undoubtedly a fine "third home," and. Xeale evidently found a position fitted to his ability on Kelburne's defencc. Jordan and Proud 'also defended ably for their, side, wiilst Webb and Pledger wore foremost isn
attack. Fox Capitol Rankin, Borrodale, and Forbes attacked well, but Clouston resorted too much to ground tussling. In goal Montgomery saved well, and Moran. was sound in all liia doings in defenco.
