Tho London Metropolitan Water Board, whoso present supply is only sufficient to servo tho population, expected in 1921, are considering an extension scheme, to cost JiC,200,000, and based on an estimated population of 12 millions in 1911. when about 120 million gallons a day will hn required. Tho scheme, which would bo carried out by instalments as required, provides for the construction, near Stnine6, of five reservoirs, with a total capacity ot about 20,900 million gallons. Tho water would bu taken from tho Thames some miles above Staines, aud led along an ,aqueduct. Objection has been made that the Thames suffers considerable pollution, which would grow with tho peculation.
