SCHOOL COMMITTEES
ANNUAL ELECTIONS TO-NIGHT. BIBLE IN SCHOOLS. This evening householders in the various school districts will .meet in their respective school buildings in order to liear the retiring committees give some account of their stewardship during the past year, and elect- new ones. Generally speaking, it is expected that the elections will pass off very quietly, though the action of the Householders' Bible-in-Schools League in circularising people on the subject of its platform may cause the meetings to bo largely attended. Somt time ago tbero appeared in Tim Dominion some account of the Householders' League, an organisation 'of recent birth, and its objects, as explained to a. reporter by Dr. F. Wallace Mackenzie, who was largely responsible for its creation. Since then the members of the league have been quietly organising their plan of campaign, s ana the oircular already referred to mukos it clear that tie co-operation of the school committees in this particular matter is hoped for. The circular recommends that "school committees be urged to return members to_ "the . Education Board who. favour Bible-reading in schools. Some (continues the circular) are afraid of Bible study stirring up sectarian strife. They are judging by the past, and have failed to notice that the old strife was stirred up by individual or political selfishness or .ambition and not by a knowledge of the Bible."
