A correspondent of a contemporary has gone. to some pains to' show that I the duties of Mayor involve the sacrifice of'very much more; time j>han can be given to them by anyone already holding public positions. Here is the list of some of tlie Mayor's duties: — 1. Member of ' the Harbour Board. (This should take a little attention.)' 2. Chairman of the Tramways Committee. (There is enough, in this for practically a man's whole time.) ' 3. Chairman of Electric Light Department. . 4. Chairman of the Finance Committee. : 5. Chairman of the Commissioners for the Investment of Sinking."Funds. 6. Chairman of the Hutt Road Board. 7. Chairman of the Island Bay Domain Board. 8. Chairman of the. Municipal Association of New Zealand. ; 9. Member of the College Board of Governors. ; 10. Member of the Board of Governors of the Girls' High School! • 11. Interviewing callers at the May-* or's office every morning./ . 12. Dealing with complaint*. , 13. Presiding at pinblio functions. 14. Chief executive officer of the corporations. ■ 15.'- Member of all corporation committees. • ' , v l6. Chairman of taE meetings of the council and all "meetings of tho council in committee.
