The appearanoe of Mr. Fisher,'the Labour leader, Mid three Labour Senators was the signal for tumultuous cheering. Mr. Fisher declared that had th 6 people been consulted at the time fusion took place between the Deakinites and Mr. Cook's: party, the Fusion Government would neper have existed. Had the late Government carried out its policy with regard to the financial agreement it'would have frustrated Australian progress. There was, ho said, something greater than the return of Labour members—that' was the rejectiau of the financial agreement.
The Labour Government would pro-' oeed to carry out the land value taxation policy. Such taxation was economically sound and right, qnd they would proceed to adjust economic conditions m that tiie people who desired to ■ draw wealth from the natural resources 6?' the country wcrald be afforded reasonable opportunities to do so, and to open avenues of employment for people living m other parts of the world they would wo!como people of European descent in any number, as soon as economic conditions made it possible for them to obtain a livelihood.
As regards defence, the Labour Party would proceed to carry out its programme announced for ten, years past. If the people desired the country to be protected, they must pay, and the Government would ask them to provide the necessary money.
. Within a year there would be at least one Labour daily paper in Australia, and within three years there would be six Labour dailies; in all the ■ Common- ; wealth.'
