At the trial of Albert Wolter,. charged with the murder ot Rose Wheeler, th« accused swore that ho had never seen Wheeler. Her name had been . given him by a friend in connection with a echool of shorthand. . The jury found Wolter guilty of murder of tho first decree. Prisoner went sound asleep/ during the jurys two hours' deliberation, and was unmoved when sentenoe was passed. He will be electrocuted on April 27.! Wolter's arrest, trial, and sentence, in point of time, is a record for New York. ■ / -I The partly-burnt: mutilated body . of Ruth Wheeler, a girl of sixteen years, was found upon the fire-escape adjoining the" rooms .occupfed'jby;.Albert Wok : ter, ;a. Taggort shoved the" bundle from the ledge with a broomi jestingly crying: "Suppose it's murder.", The bundle'fell into the courtyard, foui stories below. Taggort then opened tho paroel and found the body of the girl. She had been. strangled. Tho police had previously thoroughly searched Wolter's- rooms without finding anything. ' '
Prior to the discovery of the bod*, Wolter had been arrested, for tho abduction of tho girl, and had. been admitted to bail. ■ . i
