LILY FEET AND CLEVER HEADS.
The Mary Vauglian High School, in Hang-Chow, Cliiua (says an English paper) lias now received its principal— Miss/Weighman, M.A.. of Livorpool— who graduated with honours and was a'lecturer in Glasgow University. She has gone out to tako up tho work which Miss'Vauglian founded, but did not live to see in actual operation. The school recently concluded,.its first term, with 20 girls and 12 boarders. Tho students are lioen' and- very intelligent, and' it is already obvious.that teachers in tho school (of whom some are European and some Chinese) must be of the very . highest mental attainment. The Chinese woman of. rank will 'be heard of in tho world before long; her mind is of, great capacity, and slie has perseverance. The Chinese Government, too, is showing wide recognition of women, and allows them many facilities. . Many Chinese gentlemen, are tending their elder daughters abroad to finish their education, just as we send girls to Dresden or Brussels; but'with us/the "foreign - finishing school"' is almost a matter of social accomplishment'; the Chinese girl is out for university honours and serious culture, and is more comparable to tlie foreign student who comes to Oxford and Cambridge than, to the young lady of the "exclusive establishment" in a fashionable Continental town. i
