Inquiries concerning the 16,299 acree . of land in. the Ilauraki Plains Settlement, to be opened for selection oil Friday, May 13, have been so numerous that the Lands Department is providing : over 2000 poster plans for, distribution. , The first supply of 800.arrived from: Wellington on Friday morning, and by I the evening, less than 200 remained in the District Lands Office. Large numbers had been handed to applicants in' person, while others had been dispatched to post offices in various parts of the Auckland province. Among the requests for posters and application!, forms were several from Dunedin, West- ; port, Greymouth, and other parts <rf the South Island. . Applications will be' . received at' the Lands Office, Auckland,. . and the; Lands Office, Thames, up to/ 4 p.m. on Friday, May 13. ' Tire Land; Board will proceed to the Thames on Tuesday, May 17, in order to examine .applioants .before the, ballot which takes place at 9 a.m." the following, day at' the-Miners' Union Hall,. Thames.' Occupation,: with right of purchase, is r the tenure upon which the land is be- • ing offered, and preference will bo given to landless applicants. No person under 17 years of as« will he allowed to take part in the ballot,' and, the,' conditions provide', that, within, j ;. seven years, improvements must bo ef-: fected' to the land to the extent of £1 per acre on first-class, lands;'and 10s. per acre on second-class lands.
