ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
.DIED WHILE AT LUNCH. / , (By Telesraph—Frees Association.) Dunodin, April 23. A man named Andrew Smith, aged 39 years, died suddenly at Port Chalmers to-day when lie came home for lunch. He had worked at his trade as plumber during the forenoon. Deceased leaves a' widow and three young children. He was captain of the Port Chalmers Fire Brigade for - several years, and only left the brigade reoontly. His death is attributed to sudden heart failure. RAILWAY PORTER INJURED. : , Ashburton, April 23; Frank Goodman, a railway porter, was badly injured this morning during shunting operations. Two wagons were' passing on opposite lines, and tho corner of one wagon struck Goodman on the groin' and\threw him clear of the i-ttils. He was removed to. the hospital.
VERDICT OF MURDER. Auckland, April 23. At an inquest concerning the death of. a nowly-born child, which was found on tho beach at Onehunga, the jury returned a verdict of murder by some person or persons unknown.
