A very high musical honour has been won by Miss Aimee Champion, a Dunedin girl. Word was reoeived on Friday by Dr. Ogston, honorary representative ofvthe' Associated Board of the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music, London, that Miss Champion has been awarded an exhibition,' comprising a free course of tuition for at least two years, at the Royal Academy of Music, London. Miss Champion is a pianoforte student. Mr. Arthur Isaacs, of St. Clair; has gained tho Sterndale Bennett prize for pianoplaying, worth £35 a year for two years, at the Royal Academy.
• The death occurred suddenly at Masterton yesterday of Mrs. Emma ' Cochrane, wife of Mr. James W. Cochrane, the well-known land and estate agent, and a sister of . Mr. G. H. Cullen, so-, licitor of Masterton.,. Deceased was 38 years of. ago.
Mr. Philip Best, chairman of the Waimea County Council, has been suggested as. a' suitable successor to the late Hon! F. Trask as a representative of Nelson in the Legislative Council.
Mr. James Shaldrick, locd manager for'tho Northern S.S. Co. atOneh'unga, completed 30 years' service under., that company last Monday. •
