WELLINGTON TYPOGRAPHICAL UNION.

: There was a good attendance of members at the quarterly, -meeting of the Wellington Typographical Union, which Was- held at - the Oddfellows' Hall on Saturday evening, Mr. Edmund. Jones (president) occupying' the chair. A circular, memorandum was received from Mr. D. M'Laren, M.P.j asking the union-to join the New Zealand Federation of. Labour, ajid-ho'submitted the,proposed constitution or rules to govern th?'.federation for consideration. After an. Interesting' discussion' on' the necessity of Labour organising with a yiew of ' securing a strong and predominant- party, it was resolved: '"JL'hat this union a (Filiate with'the New Zealand, Federation' of Labour." In accordance with the rules of the union, it- will bo necessary to take a vote, by ballot of tho.wholo of the mombors to confirm the "above, resolution. , .

A protest from the Napipr branch of tho umoii'was received, and the union was strongly urged to use every endeavour to oppose the ' suggestion of the employers. /.The executive officers " were instructed to object to the proposal, "giving tho reasons for objection, and . to act with tho deputation from tho Trades and Labour Council, which is to wait on the Minister for Labour urging him not to accede to tho request of the employers. Tho question of. giving further support to the "Weekly Herald" was discussed, and it was decided to give a guarantee, to take -240 copies of tho paper weekly for six mouths, and to tako ten additional shares., ■ The report-and balance-sheet of. tho executive; of the No\y Zealand Federated Typographical Association was adopted as'printed, with tho exception of the paragraph which dealt with tho proposed amendment of the Otago Union to amend Rule 13 of tho Federation (which provides how industrial agreements, etc.,' shall bo entered into), which was rejected, and the union's vote recorded against tho proposed amendment. A Hearty voto of thanks, was accorded tho Aucklaind Typographical Union for its services as executive for tho year 1909-10. The Otago Union will act as the executive for the. current term, and it is proposed to hold a conference of all tho federal unions about tho end of this year or tho begiuniug of next. A motion was carried congratulating tho Australian Labour party on its success at the; recent Commonwealth elections, and sincerely trusting , that the electors of Now South Wales will , return a Labour party to power at the forthcoming State elections. It was resolved to forward a copy of .the resolution to Mr. -A. Fisher, Federal Primo Minister, and to publish it in the "Australasian Typographical Journal."
