A DJSPUTED ELECTION. Ashburton, April 22. A' special meeting, of the Hospital ' and Charitable Aid Board was held today, at which Dr.. Valintino was pi©, sent. The question of the validity of the election of the chairman was dealt with. Mr. Hugo Friedlander. had been 1 elected chairman at the first meeting of the board, held on April 1, on tho casting rote of the returning offioer.' Mr. Henry Davis,' the other, protested and referred the 'matter to Dr: Valintine for a decision. T)r. The defence was that the applicant for accommodation was • suspected, of being a thief.' SUCCESSES IN MUSIC. ; Dunedin, April 22. Advice has been received that Mis; Aimee Champion, of Dunedin, has been awarded an exhibition for piano playing, entitling her to two .years* education in the Royal Academy at London. Two other exhibitions go to Australia. Arthur Isaacs, of St. Clair, gained-the Sterndalo Bennett prize for'piano-play-ing, worth £35, for two years, at tha Royal Academy.
HUNTLY MINERS DISSATISFIED. ' Auckland, April 22.
The min'ers at Huntly are extremely dissatisfied with' several of the provisions of the new Arbitration Court award. At.-a. - meeting of the Waikato Miners' Union on Wednesday great dissatisfaction was expressed. The feeling among the men is that matters will reach a crisis shortly.
LABOUR MARKET. , . Auckland, April 22. No difficulty is'being experienced by the Auckland branch of the Labour Department in finding work for all applicants who are willing to work in tna country. Between April 1 and April 20 a total of 153 men were directed to avonues of employment,-107 of thai number being placed under privateemployers, while the remainnig 46 were dispatched to Government works.
