A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) • ' Wanganui, April 5. ' The performance of "Hans the Boatman" by the amateurs last night was generally voted a big success. Air.'(x. K Fama's impersonation of Hans was particularly good, while Mrs. L. Wilkie deserves great credit for the successful portrayal of the part of the Boatman's daughter, and Mr. J. 0. Swan was at his best as YankThursby. The other parts were also well idled, and tho production was in every way a highly meritorious one. There is, another good house to-night!. . Much interest is being taken in the series of concerts to bo given hero by the "Besses o' th' Barn." .
A young man named Roy Brookie, employed at Gibbons's • Brewory,; met with a nasty accident this: morning. Ho went to shirt the belt, but in some way got caught in tho belting, and was carried round and over the shafting. Fortunately the.machinist happened to be standing near tho engine, and hearing the cries of the young man immediately stopped it. Brookie was-found to have had his leg fractured and was also considerably bruised. It is understood that he had only resumed work a day or two ago after a spell necessitated by a previous accident.
It is stated that when the Badge Road between the Wanganui and.
