ETNA IN ERUPTION. AN IMPRESSIVE SPECTACLE. THE DANGER OVER. By Telegraph-Press AESociation-Copyricht Rome, Ma.rch 27. The eruption of Mount Etna is the sequel to the «bortivo outbreak in April, 1008. Tho central crater is inaotive. The spectacle at night is most impressive. A stream of lava several kilometres long was first seen descending like a burning rampart, from which cascades of fire woro falling. The heat was so fierce that it was impossible for anyone to approach within forty yards. Meanwhile there were detonations sounding like gunfire. Then rain and hail fell. The lava is diminishing in speed; it is now travelling at four metres an hour. ' The danger is past. Last night's reassuring reports of Etna's diminished activity continue, though an increased volume of lava near San Leo' greatly damaged property. (Rec. March' 29, 0.55 a.m.) • '. Rome, March 28. There are 60,000 sightseers at the foot of Mount Etna.
