. A sensational motor-car accident happened on Rock's Hill, about 15 miles from Bathurst, oh the Orange Road, on March 19. Messrs; Lawrence Brown, of Bowenfols, and A. W. Jones , of Miimbil station, wore driving at a fast pace down the hill in a 30-h.p. motorcar, '.and were trying to negotiate a, sharp turn when the car.ran off the' road, and careered .a considerable distance down the steepest part of the hill. One of the front, wheels■ was broken off, and; the: car overturned. Jones was thrown clear, and escaped with a few bruises and a. severe shaking, but his companion, who had charge of tho driving wheel, did not faro so fortunately, • being pinned beneath the overturned: car. Jones made strenuous efforts to extricate him, but could do no moro than raise the car to such' an. extent as to 'remove some of the pressure from Brown. Ho then walked to a farmhouse, four miles away, for aid, and securing the assistance of two men, was ablo to release his companion, who had been thus imprisoned for nearly two hours. But Brown had hardly been freed when a lighted match came into contact with his petrol-saturated, clothes, and caused them to burst into, flames. Rugs were promptly requisitioned, and Brown was- rolled in the grass, and by this means the flames were extinguished. A doctor was subsequently summoned, and found Brown to be suffering from bruises and cuts and bums about tho body. Tho car was badly damaged and had to be brought into town on a lorry.
