LAWN TENNIS.

EASTER TOURNAMENT. The Easter tournament of the Wellington Provincial Lawn Tennis Association was continued yesterday afternoon', when all the championship events were finished, with the exception of the ladies' doubles. Miss Nunneley and Brown proved a good deal too strong.for Miss Marchant and Young in the semi-final, of tho senior combined doubles, and subsequently annexed championship honours by defeating Miss Travers and Salniond (a team from whom more was expected), 6—l, 7—5. In the final of the ladies' singles, Miss Nunneley's greater experience, and the splendid use she made of her famous fore-hand drive enabled her to gain a victory over Miss TraVers, though the'contest was a very hard-fought one, and provided .the best exposition of the game seen during the whole of the tournament. Miss Nunneley had the misfortune to slip and fall during one of the early games, straining her ankle. She was soon able to resume play, however, and had a very active afternoon, taking part in no fewer than four matches. i The final of the ladies' doubles provided some very hard-fought games between Miss Holmes and Miss Batham, on , t ?«. 1 ?. M side, and Misses Nunneley and Williams on the. other. After each side had won a set at 6-4, the' h>ht became.too bad for further play, and the contests were adjourned until Thursday afternoon, when the final will be totally replayed at the Thorndon courts. , The junior men's doubles and ladies' singles were concluded on the Brougham Hill courts, Clarke and Eller winning the former, and Miss Morgan the latjLV-' whose play has greatly improved this season, had previously annexed the men's junior singles; Following are details of yesterday's play, the winning team, player, and score being placed first in each case:— SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS. Palmerston North, March 28. The second annual tournament of the Maori Tennis Association was held today. Tho first contest took place.at Wanganui last year; and was won by tho local team. The trophy competed for is a very handsome silver cup, presented by Maru Maru., Nine teams took part, Wanganui, Hawke's Bay, Aorangi, and Parewanui - contributing two each. All the games were well contested, particularly the ladies' and men's singles. In the former, on Friday, Tomoana played a very fine game, his opponent, Pukere, also showing splendid form. The game was ultimately won by the veteran Tomoana. The ladies' singles brought Miss Stainton and Miss M'Donald together, the former hailing from;Hawke's Bay, and the latter from Wanganui, and resulting in favour of Miss Stainton. There was only time to play-off the first round, so that the second will have to be played off to-day. Wanganui defeated Aorangi 8 sets, to nil. Hawke's Bay won from Motuiti by S sets to nil, while the game Hawke's Bay and Wangarrni ended in a draw, both teams scoring four sets eacb. Parewanui B 'defeated Aorangi B by .7 sets to 1. Parewanui A had a bye.
