Many buildings wera wiocked, and other property extensively i damaged. No particulars havo yet been received from tho country. (Rec. March 28, 0.55 a.m.) Sydney, March 27. A private cablri from tho Governor of Fiji states that he fears that the hurricane has had serious effects, although it is not likely to retard the prosperity of Fiji. - CANE FIELDS AND'MILLS SUFFER. Private advico - regarding the Suva hurricane states that, one, of the.most destructive hurricanes over experienced struck Suva at 10.30 p.m. on Thursday. , Tho town, library was unroofed, and tho hulk Sunlight was blown ashoro at Larai creok. It is understood tho blow was genoral throughout the group, and the whole banana crop is destroyed. Auckland, March 26. Suva intelligence telegraphed on Saturday states that news from the Rewa River is to the effect that the cane fields and banana 'plantations in that district have been destroyed. The Nausori sugar mill and buildings have been badly damaged, and all craft on the rivor sunk.
'The Rewa River district, some -thirteen miles" by road from Suva, is one of the Colonial Sugar Company's principal 'centres- of .activity., - The, huge mill at:Nausori,, which stands:close.to tie river,' contains more than £500,000 worth-of sugar refining plant. The craft on the river, .which, at Nausori is very wide, are-principally barges and cutters used for lightering the sugar cane. ■;
