Governor closed a most successful and enthusiastic farewell tour to South Canterbury by visits to Fairlic and Waimate. In the speeches of welcome special reference was made to his Excellency's love of travelling and personally ■ seeing all parts of the Dominion; also to Lord I'lunket's great interest in the Society for the Promotion of tho Health of Women and Children. : Waimate, March 26. The Governor visited Waimate today: The County and Borough Councils joined in giving him a public reception in Seddon Square, in the presence of a large number of people, and presented him with an address, according his Excellency a cordial welcome. Afterwards a public luncheon was tendered in the County Chambers, Mr. R. ' H. Rhodes, county chairman, presiding. Mr. Norton Francis, Mayor of. Waimate, proposed his Excellency's health, tho only other toast being that of "The King." After luncheon tho Governor and party, woro driven in motor-cars through the gorgo past the . Waihao Downs,' a distance of about.3o miles. To-night the Governor will be tho guest of the Mayor, and to-morrow ho procoeds to the county chairman's residonco at Blnecliffs. On Monday ho visits North Otago.
